The Nigerian Army (NA) has contributed significantly to the relative peace and stability enjoined in the Niger Delta, which has helped provide maximum security to the people of the area and also secured critical natural infrastructure in the region, says Professor Charles Dokubo. Prof.
Dokubo, who is the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, disclosed this at the Army Headquarters, when he paid a courtesy call to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai.
“Our region is now relatively calm, peaceful and safe. We now have streams of developmental projects and activities taking place in Niger Delta. And this was made possible by the remarkable contributions of the Army and other security agencies who provided maximum security to the people of Niger Delta and their properties.
They have also provided adequate security for the oil companies and exploration activities to thrive in our region. In a nutshell, they have provided an enabling environment for peace, security, stability and development of our richly-endowed Niger Delta region,” he said.
Prof. Dokubo, while appreciating the leadership and men of NA for their outstanding contribution towards safeguarding lives and properties in N/Delta, he solicited for more cooperation, partnership and collaboration from the Army to facilitate the entrenchment of lasting peace which will fast-track socio-economic development.
Buratai, who was represented by the Army’s Chief of Policy and Plans, Lt. Gen. Lamidi O. Adeosun, expressed appreciation for the ‘auspicious’ visit, saying NA will not relent in protecting the country, her teeming citizenry and valuable property from any internal or foreign aggression.
The COAS, further assured Prof. Dokubo of Army’s commitment to effectively partner with the Amnesty Program’s team in order for them to actualize their set objectives and clear-cut goals.
Other senior officers at the occasion include the Army’s Chief of Training and Operations, Maj. Gen. SA Adebayo and the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, among others.
