The immediate past Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation Development, Mr. Akan Okon has projected that, by August this year, one more aircraft will be acquired as an addition to the three which are already operating and by 2023; the fleet of Ibom Air would have increased to 10 aircraft.

Okon dropped the hint during an interactive session with newsmen, when he hosted them on a Thank You Dinner at his Uyo residence. He gave kudos to the press for what he acknowledged as their fair reportage of the Governor Udom Emmanuel led PDP administration in the state and the just concluded general elections.

He further stressed that, the aviation sector is a major employer of labour and as such, the Akwa Ibom State government decided to tap into the economic values of the industry by floating Ibom Air.

The erstwhile aviation Commissioner maintained that, Governor Emmanuel deserves commendations for the feat of attracting so many investments to the state despite the economic downtown the nation experienced and the many lofty projects he executed in all parts of the state between 2015 and 2019.

Mr. Akan Okon listed the four points by Sheraton Hotel and the 21 storey Intelligence Building currently under construction in Uyo as projects to which Governor Emmanuel has committed enormous resources to ensure that it comes to fruition and boost the socio-economic lives of Akwa Ibom people. On the ongoing implementation of the Ibom Deep Seaport project, Mr. Okon explained, that, the state government is awaiting the approval of President Buhari to commence actual construction of the seaport, since a preferred bidder has emerged to invest in the project.

He revealed that, the Special Committee which was set up by Governor Emmanuel in 2015 to oversee implementation of the seaport project had since submitted its report, and further action is dependent on the approval of the federal government.

Okon who lauded Governor Emmanuel for appointing the Mrs. Mfon Usoro led Technical Committee for Actualisation of Ibom Deep Seaport, explained that the committee has highly experienced persons in the maritime sector as members and commended the Committee for getting a preferred bidder ‘’Bolloré and Power Channel’’ which is one of the leading companies in the maritime and cargo sector.

He charged the citizens of Akwa Ibom State to move beyond partisan considerations as electioneering campaigns and elections are over to support and pray for the success of Governor Udom Emmanuel second term.
