The Bayelsa State Government will next week begin series of engagement with critical stakeholders on the forthcoming local government and governorship elections in the state.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, who disclosed this yesterday when the executive of the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, visited him in his office, explained that the meeting would provide an opportunity for the stakeholders to discuss on how to have violent-free elections.
Mr. Iworiso-Markson explained that the essence of the dialogue was to increase the level of awareness on the dangers of violence and solicit the support of the stakeholders to join in sensitising the public ahead of the polls.
The information commissioner commended members of the Federated Correspondents Chapel for conducting another peaceful elections and assured them of the continuous support of the state government.
He reminded journalists of their huge responsibility in maintaining peace through objective reportage and urged them to avoid being used to overheat the polity with falsehood.
